Philosophy of education
The Purpose of Education
The most important part of education is growth. Each student should be growing and developing not only academically but also on a personal level as they mature. Furthermore, I believe that education is one of the greatest gifts that we can give and that everyone has the right to be educated. Education paves the way to a better and brighter future for both the student and the country.
The Role of the Student in Education
The student is an essential part of the education process. Students need to be engaged and invested in their education. All students have the right to attend school in an environment that is physically, emotionally, and spiritually supportive. Students must work together with their teachers to create a positive learning environment. As students progress through their education they should take more responsibility for their own growth and learning.
I believe that parents should be involved in their child's education, encouraging them as they grown and develop. Parents are an essential part of their student's lives and need to be actively involved and engaged in the learning process as well, especially in the early years.
The Role of the Teacher in Education
The teacher has many roles in education. It is the role of the teacher to ensure that all students are given every chance to excel. Lessons must be taught in a manner that allows all students to flourish. While no child is the same, I believe that all children can grow and learn, as such differentiated instruction is a must in any classroom to ensure student success. Inclusion is an important part of the education system as it allows all students to participate on an even playing field. Moreover, inclusion fosters understanding and acceptance of others. This is the role of the teacher, to guide the students in creating a caring, inclusive and collaborative classroom.
The Role of the Teacher in the Community
Teachers are a vital part of their community, taking on many different roles such as: coaches, mentors, facilitators, resources (for much more than just education), and learners. As such it is important that they stay active and involved in their communities. Teachers should be role models for their students exemplifying that which they teach their students to be. Teachers have long lasting effects on their pupils both in and out of the classroom; they should live their lives mindful of this fact.
Why do I want to Teach?
Teaching is a great responsibility and privilege; one that should not be taken lightly. I have a passion for creating and inspiring others to learn, grow and express themselves through a wide variety of media. In both art and education the process is just as important, if not more so than the end product. There is beauty in the discoveries that come along the way to reaching an end goal and it is an honour to be a part of a student's discovery process.
